Update! Follow this link for the live session now! https://youtu.be/m-CbCVHdSws

A wee while ago, and this was before Fiberygoodness became official Majacraft dealers, we had this idea. It was just coincidence (or a like minds thing) that we all have an Aura each, and of course just like all spinners, we love talking about our wheels! Fiberygoodness team meetings tend to include discussions of what we are spinning and sharing our ideas 😉 So at some point Jan mentioned a very clever trick she used to help prevent the super textured yarns catching on the yarn guide. And then, as part of my role  as Enablement Manager for Majacraft, I was making a Majacraft ad for a magazine and asked Evanita for one of her stunning lace yarn spinning photos and we got talking about ways to set up the Aura to spin that fine. And of course I have previously made a tutorial video on setting up the Aura for spinning different kinds of yarns

So between the three of us we had a whole bunch of tips and tricks that we realised would be super useful to bring together into a dedicated Aura spin session to share with other Aura owners! Even better, we will also be joined by Glynis and Andrew Poad from the Majacraft Mothership in Tauranga NZ, who will talk with us about the development of this wonderful wheel too!

You can watch LIVE on YouTube and also join in the chat alongside to ask questions if you have any –  we are scheduled to begin on:

March 31 at 2pm Pacific (5pm Eastern, 11pm Central Europe, and 10am 1 April New Zealand time).

The livestream will be recorded and available afterwards for anyone who can’t be there live, we will link from our website too.

Join us on the Event page to let us know you’re coming and get notification at start time! To watch, please visit the event page again, or come back here, 15 minutes before start time and pick up your WATCH NOW link! We will also post the link on our group Facebook page

I truly believe that the Aura is the ‘One Wheel’ and it’s possible to spin anything on it. I even ‘have’ the One Wheel 😀

onewheel

I also see that this is a mythical wheel! In fact there is a fairly common myth circulating that this wheel is ‘fiddly’ and complicated, that it takes a lot of learning to figure it out. Well next week Jan, Evanita and I are going to be the Aura Myth Busters! (Who you gonna call!) We have all found that this wheel is really a ‘set and forget’ kinda wheel, it’s the ultimate wheel for ‘not’ fiddling with, because once you have found your sweet spot, the unique drive mechanism of this wheel will keep your tension pretty much consistent from bobbin empty to bobbin full. And once you know how to set it up correctly, finding that sweet spot is really easy.

Not only this but you can also alter your wheel set up so you can easily move from spinning super fine lace right through to extreme bulky, all on one wheel! This is why we love our Auras 🙂 They keep us interested by providing us with variation and many possibilities for spinning different yarns.

During our live Aura Session you can see three different set ups. While you can do most things easily with the standard Aura bobbin and its unique ‘pigtail’ orifice flyer, which Jan will be showing you, it is also possible to make your spinning life even easier and further enhance the pleasure of this wheel by adding some accessories. Evanita will be sharing her Lace Spinning setup with the Lace Kit (Lace Flyer, Fast Whorl, and Lace Bobbin) and I will be sharing my big baby the Overdrive, a fantastic addition to the Aura that I helped design and test, it allows you to spin large quantities of giant yarns (32oz + capacity) yet spins just as effortlessly as the standard set up. Between the three of us you will see how to get the most out of each arrangement, plus all the little tips and tricks we have picked up through our own experimenting and spin-play.

Here are a few examples of the kinds of yarns we have been spinning on our Auras, starting with Evanita’s beautiful and graceful lace spinning, because so many of us love to spin thin too (and knit and knit and knit!)

Jan’s amazing art yarn, because yes, this is the ultimate art yarn wheel!

And some of my huge skeins on the Overdrive (because I also like to spin and spin and spin!)

And of course, don’t forget you can also spin more traditional yarns like this:

So if you are an Aura owner, if you are currently thinking about becoming an Aura owner, OR if you are a Suzie or Rose owner and are considering the Overdrive too, we are pretty confident you will find something useful and interesting in our broadcast! Please do come and join us on the 31st!!

Sounds great, I find the Aura has a very strong pull and would love to figure out ways to work with it.

Kira we’ll definitely be able to help you reduce that pull to a more comfortable draw in. 🙂

Great! Lots of things I had not known. Now have the confidence to try again. Really liked the idea of moving the head so you can see what you are spinning. That has always been a problem for me. Like Evinita I like even bobbins! But most of all, how to get the tension loose then work up from there. Thanks again everyone.
