Pocket Pouch Maker
A complete kit for weaving a no-sew pouch, just add yarn!

The Pocket Pouch Maker Kit

One of the reasons I just love working with fibre and yarn is the apparently endless possibilities for creating with them! While spinning remains my number one passion, I also love to find ways to creatively use my yarns. Weaving has always been a go-to for me, it is a wonderful, mindful way to use yarns, and small weaving is the perfect way to use up all the sample yarns I make, and leftovers from other projects.

With this in mind, I have created a series of small looms, on which I can create weavings from simple plain weave to fun-to-weave patterns. I can make these as ‘flat’ weavings on these looms, but this is not actually the prime reason I designed the looms the way I have! A while ago I spotted a little take-along weaving kit someone had made with a glasses case, a cardboard loom, and some weaving needles. Fascinated by this, I developed and designed my own Kit, but I wanted a more permanent loom, that I could use over and over! So I fashioned this from bamboo, a lovely weight of sustainably grown wood with a delightful colour and grain. It is also very sturdy and durable.

Perhaps you have seen this done on cardboard one-use looms too – but what I have made are bamboo hand-held no-sew pouch making looms!

Each of my looms is warp-able (very quickly) from front to back, and when woven around and around the circumference of the loom it is easy to create a pouch! You form the pouch first and then continue up the back to make the closure for the pouch. Once the loom is full, the removable warping pegs lift off the front and slide easily out of the warp loops, then you pop the warp off the top pegs and slide the entire – finished – pouch off the loom!

You can add a closure and use the pouch as it is, or, I like to add a single row of crochet around the top edge to give it an even prettier finish. I have some with clips for attaching to my project bag, and even one I can wear as a necklace containing a little treasure I like to carry with me.

My first experiments were done in simple plain weave, this is really easy for new weavers to begin their journey with. Then I started some experiments with the more complicated Krogbragd pattern weaving, a simple one as well but I loved the effect and plan much more of this! You could also use the loom for some tapestry-type designs too!

I really love this Kit, it is so portable, and allows me to keep everything together, (not tangled in my bag of holding) and I can happily sit and weave while out and about enjoying a coffee and chat anywhere! This is a very mindful form of weaving that you can do anytime anywhere, taking a few mindful moments to pause, slow down, and relax, or spend a lovely evening making the entire pouch in one sitting, these take anything from two to 5 hours to make.

A Three Piece Pouch Loom Set too!

I loved this Kit and little loom so much… I decided to make a whole set of these looms in different sizes! The Fiberygoodness Pouch Loom Set was developed and made 🙂

There are three sizes in this set, from the mini pouch loom, the same size as the one in the Kit (but with a different shaped closure flap) to the midsize (above left) and the large size that fits my max sized smartphone (and attached card wallet).

All sizes are easy to hold and work with, and while being a nicely solid weight, are not so heavy that they are tiring to hold, the perfect balance!

All my looms have detachable front warp pegs, so if you wanted to make a flat, non-pouch weaving you can warp around the entire loom front to back, using the top pegs from both sides, giving you plenty of warp length to fill, or to cut and knot if preferred. The removable pegs also make it really easy to slide the front pegs out of the warp when completed.

There is a little ‘easter egg’ here too, as the largest loom comes with an extra front peg bar, with my beloved ‘dragon’ included – I had to get it in here somehow! As well as being something of a signature part of my fiberygoodness tool designs, it also makes your weaving a little extra special and even easier to take the peg bar out when done!

The Kit and Set both come with written instructions, and there is also a 30 minute video demonstration on how to use them, made with the Kit loom and accessories – which is also applicable to the Set looms too of course.

I do hope you will enjoy these new additions to the FIberygoodness tool range! You can find out more about them in the Fiberygoodness shop and also watch the demo video linked from the Kit page too.
