As a firm believer that our fiber tools should be as fun and creative as the projects we work on with them, I have added this nifty dual Dragon shaped Niddy Noddy, named the ‘Wyrm Winder’ to my wee tool range for your yarn winding pleasure!
The niddy noddy is made of wood, which I cut on my laser to my original design. I then carefully sand each piece so it feels nice to hold with no sharp edges, then paint each one individually with quality acrylics. I finish it with a clear coat to protect the surface.
The Wyrm Winder comes in two sizes
You can choose from Sample Size (makes a 36 inch skein) and the large size makes a 1.5 yard skein. The Sample size dragons are gold edged and you will get a random selection of ‘sea’ ‘sky’ or ‘midnight’. The large size comes in your choice of ‘Sea”, ‘Sky’ or ‘Midnight’.
How to Use your Wyrm Winder
The two dragons slot easily together tail to tail, and help you wind a skein. The handiest part is you can tuck the starting end of your yarn into the tail, or wrap it around the neck, and your dragon will hold it for you, so if you have to stop and put your niddy noddy down before you have finished winding, the end will stay secure.
When it comes to measuring your skein, I find the most accurate way to do so is to wind the skein, remove from the niddy noddy and wash it to set the twist, then when dry lay the skein flat, measure its length, multiply by 2 (for both sides), and then multiply by the number of strands.
The Sample size is super useful for small skeins, and for on-the-go while you’re out and about. Because it is so light and packs flat you can pop it in your handbag or project bag to take on outings with your spinning. Take it with you along with a Plying Dragon for a fabulous set to ply first and then wind your skein!

Specifications
The assembled Sample Niddy Noddy has a nose to nose measurement of 30cm (11.8″) and wing to wing of 24cm ((9.45″). The wingspan is 17.5cm (6.9″). Unassembled, each dragon has a nose-tip to tail-tip measurement of 24cm (9.45″). The two dragons together weigh just 70grams (2.8oz)
The Large Wyrm Winder measures 45cm (17.7″) nose to nose, 36cm (14.17″) wing to wing, with a wingspan of 21cm (8.3″). Assembled it weighs 158gm (5.57oz).

These are unique tools and each one is painted by hand so there will be variations between them. The colours are consistent and are created with quality acrylic paints and finished with three coats of clear.
